Preface
Sri Ramakrishna declared that for this Age of Kali-the Iron Age- when people are very much attached to their bodies and hence to physical pleasures, the simple path of bhakti or devotion taught by Narada is the most efficacious path to perfection.
This brochure is a systematic summary of the wellknown work of Narada-the Narada Bhakti Sutras-translated from the original Kannada version entitled Narada Bhakti Sutragalu-Ondu Adhyayana. We are grateful to Prof. C.V. the translator, for his labour of love and to Sri Nataraj of Sri Nithyananda Printers, Bangalore. We hope that this booklet too will be welcomed by the lovers of our religion and culture, as the earlier ones.
Bhakti or devotion to God is one of the most essential aspects of spiritual practice. There are two standard works on bhakti: The Sandilya Bhakti Sutras and the Narada Bhakti Sutras. The former deals with the philosophy behind the practice of bhakti whereas the latter deals with its practical aspects. This booklet is a companion volume to the Narada Bhakti Sutras-A Study published earlier in February 1193. it can serve as an introduction to the study of the original sutras.
Those of the readers interested in a more detailed study of the same may please go through my work Sandilya Bhakti Sutras with Svapnesvara Bhasya (translated with annotations) published by the University of Mysore.
