The Economic history of Ancient and Medieval Orissa is of great importance among the present scholars This books is a pioneering attempt for the detail study of the economic life of the people of Orissa from the earliest time to the 16th century A.D. The book presents in a systematic and comprehensive manner various aspects of the Economic life of Orissan people like land system, agriculture, trade and commerce, crafts and industries, Revenue and the currency system during the Ancient and Medieval period.
The book will undoubtedly of immense help to study the economic life of Orissan people and its deterioration during 16th century A.D.
It is hoped that this work will help the students and scholars alike.
Dr. Raimohan Mohapatra, born in 1952 in the village Korant in the District of Bhadrak, had his M.A. degree in first class from Utkal University in 1973 and secured second position in the University.
Then he started his career as a lectuer and served in different Colleges of Orissa like S.C.S. Evening College, Puri, V.N. College Jajpur Road, Talcher College, Talcher and Anandapur College Anandapur.
As a distinguished scholar he is associated with different Historical Organisations and life members of Orissa History Congress. Indian History Congress, South Indian Histoy Congress and Indo-American Centre for International studies (Formerly ASRC, Hyderabad).
At present Dr. Mohapatra is working as senior Lecturer in History, Agarpara College. Bhadrak, Orissa.
Till nineteenth Century history was confined to the study of political events and institutions. But at present the social, economic, moral and literary life of the people is included in the scope of history. History is not simply the biographies of personalities, their families and successes, but it is the sum total activities of human life and of all aspects of human life, the socio-economic condition of the people of a country is certainly interesting Hence, it is necessary to study the socio economic history of India as whole, along with the study of different regions, which form distinct phase of a composite culture.
