The Nation that has no consciousness of the past cannot give shape to a great and glorious future. Reclaiming our past and recapturing the Dharmic vision is important for the furtherance of our future, to help us emerge as a confident nation capable of playing its civilizational role. History was a tool used first by our colonial masters, then by their Nehruvian successors and the Left-Liberal cabal to colonize our minds and impede our rise from the abyss of a slavish mindset. Shri Nandakumar surveys the entire freedom movement from a historical perspective to bring out in absorbing detail the real motivation of our freedom fighters to preserve and revitalize the Swa Consciousness -our National Selfhood. The book provides us a new template to view our past.

J Nandakumar, the National Convenor of Prajna Pravah, a Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS)-affiliated organization, is a multifaceted personality. He is an accomplished author, an eminent intellectual, a powerful orator, a gifted poet, and an able organization-builder. Born in Kerala's Pandalam, Nandakumar, an RSS pracharak who has dedicated his entire life to the nation's cause, unmasked the savage face of CPI(M) at the national level through his relentless campaign against the Marxist party's murder-politics in its Kerala strongholds. He was Editor of Kesari, the largest-read weekly magazine in Malayalam. He has authored several books, including the Amazon best-seller Hindutva for the Changing Times, brought out by Indus Scrolls Press. He also edited Lok, Beyond Folk: Reimagining Bharat's Future Based on National Selfhood.

What drove our nationalists to take a plunge into the Freedom Movement against the British imperialists? Was it the desire for mundane political power that compelled so many great men and women to risk their lives in the face of British brutality?

On close scrutiny, one can see that the spark that triggered several battles and campaigns in different parts of the country ever since the invaders made their entry into our land is our quest to protect Swa (selfhood), which was being trampled on by the alien forces. The freedom movement was fought not just to obtain independence from political and economic oppression, but also to restore our Swatva, our genuine identity.

As we enter the Amritkaal of independence, it is a great opportunity for all of us to revisit, refine, and reclaim our lost "collective truth", explore and acknowledge the contribution of the unsung heroes, and change our perspectives to grasp the unfolding truths about our past and Swatva.
