The Bhagavat Puran contains many stories about Lord Vishnu that have become a part of Indian folklore. This book comprises a selection of well-known stories from the Bhagavat Puran. It includes the story of King Prithu, from whom the word 'Prithvi is derived. The story of his illustrious descendant, King Bharata, who reigned over the entire Indian subcontinent and whose kingdom was called Bharatavarsha ('the land e Bharata'), is also narrated here.
