No apology is needed to recite Sri Rama's name and sing his glory. Ramayana is written by Sri Valmiki, the first and foremost of poets under divine inspiration. It is eternal, and will last, as long as mountains exist, rivers flow, and sun and moon shine in the sky.
It is a common practice in our land to read Ramayana particularly "Sundarakanda" whenever we are faced with difficulties and thorny problems. Sundarakanda, the fifth book of Ramayana describes the glorious achievements of Sri Hanuman, bis effortless leap across the ocean; his success in bringing comfort and consolation to Sita by carrying Rama's message and the signet ring to her; his heroic exploits in Lanka, the capital of Ravana; and his presenting Sita's Chudamani thead-omament) to Rama with her message.
It has been the individual experience of many that the reading of "Sundarakanda" solves our problems; gives mental peace, bestows material benefits, and brings about the chastening of the spirit.
The economic and political crisis which the society is passing through, is only a reflection of the moral and spiritual crisis in man. The eternal verities of life, simply because they are eternal, become stale, unless they are frequently burnished to shine by repeated utterances by sages and saints. By reading Sundarakanda we are able to get out of our material and moral slough. It is said of Ramayana that even a syllable saves."
