While Sri Krishna's activities were confined to the Northern part of Sri Rama strode three-fourths the length of Bharath, that is, India. This year is special for all of us as, at last, Ayodhya is getting a temple at His birth spot (on a personal note this year is significant for me as my grandson finished learning by heart the 700 slokas of Bhagavadh Gita and recited them in a congregation at Dallas, USA).
Apart Sri Rama and Sri Krishna, Sri Narasimha is the deity in many families. We, in South India, connect Him with Ahobila but there is a place in Rajasthan, near Zawar, where it is believed that Narasimha killed Hiranyakashipu.
Apart from the three deities above, very few know the other avathaaras (manifestations) of the Lord. Maybe they know superficially about the ten avathaaras, known as, 'Dashaavathaaras' but are unlikely to have known that the Lord has appeared in 24 manifestations.
Adiyen thought it appropriate to present the details of all the 24 manifestations in a somewhat synoptic manner. For the main avathaaras, details are easily available and for most of the other manifestations Srimad Bhaagavatha Purana is of great help. A word about Vibheeshana. But for him we would not have had the benefit of worshipping Sri Rama's 'Aaraadhya Devatha' right at the religious centre of South India, Srirangam.
