The University Grants Commission, New Delhi has instituted Sri Aurobindo Memorial Lectures with the object of promoting interest in the study of Sri Aurobindo's contribution to Yoga and to encourage general teaching and research in Indian Philosophy-both in theory and practice. The special concern of the memorial lectures is to deal with the relevance of Indian Philosophy to our times and to its criticai interpretation and exposition in the context of modern scientific knowledge e.g. problem of inter-action between mind and matter.
The University Grants Commission asked the Maharaja Sayajirao Univer- sity of Baroda to collaborate with and organise Sri Aurobindo Memorial Lectures of 1983 for which Prof. Davide Montemorri an eminent educationist and a renowned scholar on Sri Aurobindo and in the field of spirituality was invited to deliver three lectures on (1) A Westerner's Encounter with Sri Aurobindo, (2) A Struggle for India-A Struggle for Humanity and (3) The Adventure of Consciousness at Baroda. It is a matter of pride and pleasure for the University to have collaborated with and organised these lectures and is also pleased to now publish these lectures with the financial assistance of the U.G.C., New Delhi,.
I am sure the lectures will be useful and interesting not only to the students of Philosophy but also to the general public having interest in the subject.
