It goes to the credit of the Hindu society that many religious rites and customs-some of which are hoary antiquity - are still being performed. However, they have become mechanical and lifeless, mainly due to two reasons:
a. The impact of modern ideas, influenced largely by science and technology, have loosened their faith in these rites and rituals.
b. They are not properly informed about the significance and the benefit of performing them.
This booklet is a modest attempt in the direction of enhancing their faith and enlightening them on a common but an important aspect of such rites.
We are grateful to Sri B.N. Nataraj of Sri Nithyananda Printers for offering to bring out this booklet.
We hope that the readers will welcome this brochure also so they have done on earlier occasions.
