This is the first part of a series of books on spiritual matters. For this part, I have chosen ten topics which are at the core of spirituality.
God Everyone will agree that without belief in God, spirituality is baseless. We know that God encompasses everything, but not everyone realizes that when we are not God-centered we get lost. God is our beginning, middle and the end also. (The Bhagavad-Geeta 10.20) Therefore, it is wise not to lose sight of God, no matter what we do.
Soul - Something similar can be said about the soul also because that is what one is. After God, we are the next in the order of priority. Also, we have this false impression that the world revolves around us. This impression needs to be corrected.
Bodily Consciousness - This topic comes next because most of us are stricken by this defect, that is we consider ourselves as material bodies only even though theoretically we are aware of our identities as souls. Soul realization is very difficult to achieve. (The Bhagavad- Geeta 2.29)
Intelligence - This sets us apart from other species. Shouldn't we know more about what constitutes intelligence, real intelligence? One may falsely assume that having some knowledge is intelligence, but actually it is much more than that.
Mind - Our scriptures are full of detailed information about the need to control our minds, without which we don't even get started on the spiritual journey; control of mind is the key factor for making spiritual progress.
Dharma Or Duty - This word is badly misunderstood and requires proper understanding. Without being properly aware of it, we tend to invent all kinds of dharma or duties, and with disastrous results.
