The last time I met Laldinkima, he was on his way to joining the Bishop Cotton School at Shimla. I did not know that he wrote poetry, and could never have imagined that he would return a few years later with a collection of his poems. This collection of poems is many things at once. It is always reflective, talking the reader through a multitude of thoughts, emotions, and events. It is perceptive, sensing things that lie beyond the obvious. It is also imaginative, finding words that create living images. It is the thought and work of one between the age of 14 to 16 years.
Some of the poems are abstract reflections, on life and on relationships, sprinkled with a wisdom that is often tinged with sadness. Unto Whence talks of the futility of material desire, Acceptance of the virtue of labour and Twist and Sham of the crumbling institution of marriage. Other poems delve into the inexorability of time, on the power of imagination, loneliness, on beauty, and on friendship. To eternity traces the bond between siblings where 'The intimate closeness/ the loving care...' is lost with time. The poet comments on the 'magic of memory', 'the quality of which depends widely from how a time at hand is spent/ to how good a recollection is made' in With a living past.
Spectrum: A Plethora of rhapsody is an endeavour to return what little I have to the world which has given me so much. It is also a view-point of a sixteen year old about the way he sees life and it's supplements. However, many and different age groups will also agree with me on my views and I am sure will find pleasure in reading this anthology. It includes a wide range of topics, from the likes of humour out of a friend to looking at ourselves from our darker and happier sides. Since the book is like a thought process of mine, I have not put the poems in any order of classification. It would indeed be very difficult to arrange one's thoughts since one does not know what he is about to think!
All the poems may not bear a 'rapturous' nature but all of them has evolved out of great inspiration, enthusiasm and come with a strong feeling. The persons to whom the book is dedicated to also bear important significance since many of the poems idolize their characters and ways of life.
