Guru Nanak Devji" was a great social reformer. He preached libral, social doctrines and he upheld the idea of equality and advocated a classless society. He was an apostle of Universal brotherhood and he condemned cast and class. He was really a pro-human crusaders discarding all barriers. Nanak considers all men high and acknowledges non as low. The message of "Guru Nanak Devji" there is neither a hindu, nor a Muslim only man, is a great blessing for Indian Society. This way he preached the great doctrine of peace and good will for Hindu and Musalman, Christian and parsses it for all section of the whole Indian Community. My close association with the members of the Sikh Community and particulary with the teaching and non-teaching staff of Guru Nanak College, Dhanbad, aroused my interest in the study of the teaching of Guru Nanak Devji, the founder of the Sikh religion. As a student of Sociology. I decided to study the "Social Philosophy" of Guruji. Of course,. Many scholars have studied the Philosophy of Guru Nanak Devji but most of the works are related to his ethical or religious ideas and preachings. The materials available on social philosophy of Guru Nanak Devji are not in abundance. His ideas about the various social issues which the present book has dealt with could be ascertained from the expression made by him incurs of his various discourse. An indepth analysis of Guru Nanak Devji's preaching reveals that he had profound interest towards the people and their various social problems. When Guruji came of age, he saw complete darkness around him, the rulers were cruel, corrupt and domineering and the ruled were submissive both had lost their self and were self-alienated, the religious practices had made the people only the power seekers through the performance of the magical rites. There was no integrity and self-respect left in the people, as they were changing colours with the change of the circumstances. Sikhism, as propounded by Guru Nanak Devji, teaches evolution of the moral self and the emotional reason. The whole Sikh discipline is for strengthening of the self in man so that he can freely choose one thing over the other in the scale of values, accept responsibility and judge the things by norms. Man loses. The reason only when he becomes self-seeking and loves the object not for the sake of the object but to posses it and to enjoy it.
Guru Nanak was a great personality who always thought about the mass in general. He was founder of Sikhism. He fought tooth and nail for all castes. He was given an exalted position in the society in the spiritual hierarchy of the country because of his great contribution and concerned for social justice. He was a staunch supporter of humanity irrespective of caste, creed, breed, colour and nationality. He was thinking about alround development of last man (marginal men) of the society. Religion never ignores a man. Mahabharata in very beginning in Mangalacharan has wished the victory of a man which denotes that man is pivot of all religions. All religions cluster around man. Therefore ignoring man, being unjust, cruel to him is a great injustice to mankind and religion as well. It is therefore, nobody was spared who was responsible for social injustice. It is apparent that Nanak is considered to be a Guru of Nirgundhara (Medievel period. Nirgunkavyadhara headed by Kabir) in which God has no shape and size, body. It is formless with unlimited qualities for the development of devotees & followers but there is strict provision of character which should be pure, pious and kind to all. Nanak's vani always propogates the unity and homogeneity of mankind and it was very essential rather the demand of the day to strengthen our nation and citizens as well. It is admitted that he was founder and preacher of Sikh religion but it would not be proper and justified to confine him to religious doctrines and dogmas only. He was very sensitive and responsible to the contemporary and burning problems of the society.
