The International Institute of Tamil Studies in its endeavour of imparting knowledge to the people all over the world about Tamil Language, Literature, Society, Culture, civilization, Philosophy. Art & Architecture is pursuing the same to achieve the goal. Book publication is one of our pursuits. Till now, we have published 455 titles.

Heritage of the Tamils series is one of the ambitious projects undertaken by the Institute. So far we have conducted 12 such seminars and nine books have been brought out under this series. Though belated we are proud of publishing the 10th title 'Social Heritage of the Tamils' in the series now.

This compilation contains 25 articles-seventeen in English and 8 in Tamil which elucidate the cherished Social Heritage of the Tamils are being now released in printed form.

We are grateful to the Chairman of our Institute Thiru. S. Semmalai, Hon'ble Minister for Education, Government of Tamil Nadu under whose guidance and support this Institute grows further and further. We are thankful to Thiru P.A. Ramaiah, I.A.S., Secretary to Government, Tamil Development-Culture and Endowment Department and also to Thiru T. Chandrasekaran, I.A.S., Additional Secretary to Government, Tamil Development-Culture Department for their encouragement in all our activites for the development of the Institute.
