It will ever remain for me an uphill task to express perfectly all my deep feelings and sense of gratitude to Dr. A.P. Vithal, Head, Department of English, Research Centre, Dayanand College of Arts, Latur, in just a few lines. It is he who remains responsible right from suggesting to seeing through this work. It will always be a matter of great comfort for me to look back to those years when he guided and disciplined' me. Without his strict supervision and remarkable personal touch, this work would not have matured to this stage. It is indeed a matter of real pride for me for being his student. He will continue to remain my guide in future too. I am thankful to the UGC and (College Development Council), Marathwada University, Aurangabad for granting me the Teacher Fellowship for a period of two years, owing to which I could utilize my time for this project with undivided loyalty. I am equally indebted to Govt. of Maharashtra and the Director of Higher Education, Pune who allowed me to avail a period of two years to complete my research work. I would like to place on record my obligation to Principal Shivajirao Patil, Dayanand College of Arts, Latur, for providing facilities during my FIP tenure at Latur. Principal Bondre and my colleagues at Govt. College of Arts and Science, Aurangabad, have always encouraged me for everything I attempted in the academic field. I am grateful to them.
