The vision and prophecy of Mahatma Vidyaranya who called himself Moorkhanand because be said he had made many sankalpas which were not fulfilled, led to the creation of the biggest institute of astrology, the Institute of Astrology the Bharatiya vidya Bhavan, New Delhi in July 1987.
In its weekend courses with thirty one teachers and over twelve hundred students and more than sixty books published, most of them original researches, it is offering this souvenir, on this occasion as part of its silver Jubilee Celebration. Perhaps, in the history of the world such a big institute teaching only astrology never existed.
The Institute runs two international courses for foreign students, one from Russia and the former republics of USSR and the other for more than twelve other countries of the world.
Teachers of the BVB also have gone to USA, Russia and Japan to teach more than twenty times in two decades.
Many books of the teachers of the Institute of Astrology have also been translated into Russian and Japanese languages.
Since Enjoyments that are contact-born are parents of misery alone, and with beginning and end, O son of Kunti, a wise man does not seek pleasure in them, Gita Ch 5 Sh22
Jyotish is an apara, not a para vidya or knowledge according to the Mundak Upanishad, meaning a worldly subject not leading to salvation. It can divinize a man with the wisdom to understand some of the magnificent Leelas of the Lord, the Creator and His 2013, we are celebrating, six months later than the scheduled date, the Silver Jubilee, of the founding of the Institute of Astrology, the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan.
Pround as we should be for founding the largest ever institute of astrology I the world with thirty one teachers and over eleven hundred students, happy but not contented still even after producing world’s best researches, replicable and tested, we are aware of our limitations. The most difficult subject ever, taking in its compass entire gamut of human emotions and problems is this subject called jyotisha.
We have Endeavour to do what best we could within the limitations of the time available in this week end classes we hold in these twenty five years. It is a moment to rejoice, occasion to recapitulate what we have done, could have done and also our failures and failings.
Yet, it is an occasion for us celebrate it as twenty five years or two decades and a half is even in the history of an institution a long enough period and for individuals like us an eternity.
It is not an occasion for enjoyment but an occasion to celebrate still, as a landmark is worth celebrating.
What then is the best way of celebrating it? It is to bring out a souvenir. Long after the celebration is over the souvenir will be read for some though provoking articles researches by the teachers of the Institute and preserved. With that hope teachers have contributed their to this souvenir we are presenting here.
Catching the deadline in writing articles for the teachers busy with their offices and household duties had to lead to an anticipated delay in their writing the articles appearing in this souvenir. Yet, they have rushed through it all with some enthusiasm. The attempt of the writers has been to produce such research as helps sharpen predictive prowess of an astrologer with a new technique, novel idea, an innovation that helps to answer the rather difficult question of modern man in a complex world.
