Swami Amalananda was one of the eminent sanyasi disciples of Swami Asimananda Saraswati of Ramchandrapur, Purulia, West Bengal. Swami Asimananda Saraswati was disciple of Swami Kiranchand Darveshji, the founder of Shree Shree Bijoy Krishna Math at Varanasi, who himself was a direct disciple of Shree Shree Bijoy Krishna Goswami.
Swami Amalananda was born on 13th October, 1942 at Raipur, Chattishgarh. His father Shree Dhirendra Krishna Mukherjee was a disciple of Swami Premananda Bharati of Shree Lokenath Brahmachariji sech who was the first to spread the Vaishnav religion and Naamsamkeertan abroad. Amalanandaji’s mother Smt. Jyotirmoyee Dobi was a disciple of Swami Bishuddhanandaji, popularly known as ‘Gondhobaba’. Thus as a child, Swamiji grew up in a very spiritual environment. In 1961, he completed his graduation in the field of science and took to teaching as a profession, but, his mind was always in search of Sadguru and so along with his elder brother, Swami Alokananda Saraswati, he visited many maths, ashrams and religious places. Finally at Puri they met ‘Maa Mani’ who was one of the disciples of Shree Shree Bijoy Krishna Goswamiji sect. She showed them the spiritual path and told them about Swami Asimananda Saraswatiji.
On 7th October, 1962, they were initiated (deeksha) by Swami Asimananda Saraswatiji. In the year 1964, they left home to visit holy places like Haridwar, Rishikesh, Brahmapuri, Varanasi, Vrindaban etc. On 9th March, 1967 they were initiated into sannyas by their guru Swami Asimananda Saraswatiji, on his birthday which was the ‘Mahashivratri’ day.
It was a priceless gift for the seekers of dharma from my brother and co-disciple Swami Amalananda Saraswati (1942-2010) in compiling and constructing the first Hindi version of Goswamiji’s life and sermons in the book named ‘Shree Shree Bijoykrishna Kathamrita’ in a Compact and comprehensive from which was first published in 1995. Collecting materials from credible sources and placing them in a chronologica order took a long time. Over and above the routine work of the ashram which included overseeing the construction of buildings, pilgrimages with large teams of devotees, he had dedicated two full years to this book working relentlessly. Many Hindi speaking people spread across the length and breadth of the country have benefited by this book, as the reader spends lesser time while going through the most important aspects of Goswamiji’s life. The first part contains Goswamiji’s complete life, his interaction with various mahatmas, some of his disciples and some important sermons for the disciples and bhaktas. The second part contains 41 selected lectures which he had delivered when he was a preacher of the Brahmo Samaj. Originally these were recorded in the Bengali language and then these have been translated into Hindi and now into English. We have the pleasure of informing the readers that this book has already been translated into Kannada and Gujarati languages and is finding wide acceptance among the readers of the respective languages. It will not be too optimistic to believe that this book will be translated into many more Indian language because of its content value in the days to come A section of the populace has been demanding an English version since a long time. Keeping that in view and also responding to the call of those in foreign lands we had embarked on this idea of bringing out an English edition. The task fell on Shree Debkumar Bhattacharya who was translated Several books into English for our ashram including the very important Shree Shree Sadguru Sanga. By the grace of Goswamiji he has done a good job, with inputs from his wife Tapati in terms of editing and proof-reading. A widespread readership of this book will be a fitting tribute to Goswamiji. I pray at the feet of Goswamiji for the well being of all.
