Sri Shirdi Sai Baba occupies the most prominent place among all the great Godmen and saints of the 19th and 20th centuries. His Name and fame as a very caring, compassionate and loving saviour of the distressed people and earnest seekers of his divine intervention and spintual knowledge, have already spread in the four corners of the world. Each day more and more people needy ones, spiritual seckers, intellectuals as well others, of all religions and lands, are coming under the fold of his divinity and becoming his devotees Sri Shirdi Sai Baba is a unique and most fascinating divine personality who is venerated as a Prophet. He is much different from other Saints and Godman. His uniqueness lies in his extreme simplicity of the style of his living, his catholicity and nobility of his teachings, his promptness in responding to the earnest call from any devotee's heart. His genuine integrative secular approach, and his universalistic and altruistic pattern variables in his role functioning as the great Prophet of the Age.
I consider it to be my rare fortune that in this birth I have been privileged to be under the umbrella of the grace of such a great divine Master Since 1974 I have been his devotee I have visited his holy place Shirdi in Maharashtra State many times and have read almost all important books and articles in English and Hindi written on him so far. As a social science researcher as well as an ardent devotee. I have felt that although there are so many books written on him, yet most of them are not comprehensive and complete, they usually present a very sketchy or superficial description of his Avataric career and focus mainly on his miracles, while neglecting the most crucial aspects of his divine charismatic personality and his spiritual significance and relevance to the human society in the modern times and the fast-approaching 21st Century.
With the spread of education and emergence of the age of logic, science and concern for functionality in every sphere of life, educated people of today do not have much interest and faith in divine or spiritual personalities and spiritual matters, their miracles and teachings which they usually consider to be rather very traditional, superstitious or out of tune with the modern times. But on the other hand, the sociological fact is that there is a widespread anomie (normlessness), misery, immorality and resultant insecurity and unhappiness in the world.
