What is the spiritual and scientific importance of Aarti? How should the Guru be? What is the relationship between the earth's arc, speed of light, and Aarti? Why did Sai Baba accept 'Dakshina? Who should beg for alms and who should not? All these questions have been answered in this book. Foreword

I have the mind of an impoverished, and the longing of a king. That seems to be rather contradiction in terms. However, in the arena of devotion there is no contradiction between the mind and the longing of a devotee. Here, they are complementary to each other.

When a devotee considers his mind or intellect to be poor or rather limited, it reveals the sense of his self-surrender. Should a devotee be proud of his intellect, then it is found that he has a state of wavering devotion.

Wisdom is subtler than intellect and without dispassion and detachment, wisdom is futile, being merely a means of intellectual indulgence. So the erudite remain thirsty in their life, there is no blooming and blossoming during the spring.

If there be discrimination and detachment unaccompanied by devotion, then life perspective gets often blurred; and that's why although there is no scarcity of the learned ones in society, nor are people with discrimination and detachment wanting, yet people are ever full of worries and afflictions.

Delving deeper into this malediction, one discovers that in society such people suffer from lack of devotion. It is the tender feelings and sublime beatitude wherefrom flourishes the garden of worldly love from the first human quality and the ocean of divine love from the second, where God is enshrined.

Preface

Shirdi Sai Baba: Jeevan-darshan Aur Bhakti, written by O. P. Jha and published by Diamond Pocket Books (P) Ltd., received huge applaud from Sai devotees and others alike. On popular growing demand for its English version, we approached Acharya Purushottamananda, Former Professor of Jamia Milia Islamia University, New Delhi, who is a reputed author of our other publications on Sai Baba.

We have great pleasure to write that Acharya Purushottamananda not only kindly accepted our request, but also made available the English version of this highly reputed work by Shri O. P. Jha in a very short time. Translation of such a creative work as 'Shirdi Sai Baba : Jeevan - Darshan Aur Bhakti', by the eminent literary author has not been an easy task, when it is almost impossible to breathe into the heart and soul of the author through the foreign tongue, yet readers may find it immensely beneficial.
