This book is the fruit of a Research- Project granted to me by Indian Council of Historical Research, 35, Feroze Shah Road, New Delhi. The project had been granted for collection, annotation and editing of British documents related to Santal Parganas (1757-1947) The region was known as Jungle -Terai till 1855 and afterwards a new district named Santal Parganas was created. For a long period, the area was deeply related to Bhagalpur and Monghyr.
Documents, letters, Sanads and Zamindari Records collected are now being presented to the readers, particularly research- scholars for their use and benefit. The records have been collected from West Bengal Archives, Kolkata, Bihar State Archives Patna and Bhagalpur Record Room. Besides, late Dr. Kalikinkar Datta's unpublished "Old Zamindari Records of Bihar (in two volumes)" has been utilized for the Zamindari Estates of this region. Original records about the Santal Hul have been collected and other important reports have also been included The list of martyrs and Freedom Fighters of Santal Parganas have also been given.
I think that this book will come as handy and useful for research- scholars and others who are interested in modern history of this region Santal Pargans, Bhagalpur and Monghyr Commonly konown as Anga.

This book is the fruit of a Research Project of Indian Council of Historical Research, (ICHR) 35, Feroze Shah Road New Delhi (vide letter no F.1-29/2007-ICHR (GIA-III) RP dated-30.9.2008).
The Project had been granted for the collection, annotation and editing of British (Original) Documents related to Santal Parganas (1757-1947). This region was a part of Bhagalpur and Monghyr region. I have collected a few important documents, letters, correspondences etc. related to this region. Now, I want to present it in public gaze so that researchers may get and study these documents easily without taking trouble to go the Record Room and Archives. The documents have been collected from West Bengal Archives Kolkata, Bihar State Archives, Patna and Bhagalpur Record Room as well as from personal labour. In these documents, I have also included some important documents collected by late Dr. Kalikinkar Datta. His collection of Zamindari Records of Bihar (in Two volumes) is still unpublished. Due to the grace of his son, late Dr. P.K. Datta, I could get a xeroxed typed copy of the documents related to this region. Those records have been included in this book.
