Sonkar, Mithai Lal, Son of Sri Gyani Ram, honoured as “Yogacharya” by Late renowned Pt Raj Narain Shastri, was bornon Feb. 16, 1944 in a Sonkar family of Varanasi. He was attracted towards YOGASANS since 1955 when he was boy of only eleven years. He took up practical training of this ancient Yoga system of India from Swami Sukhanadazi and devoted nearly 40 years in mastering it.
Since 1976 Sonkar is distributing his experience and knowledge of Yoga for the benefit of humanity.
Mithai Lal Sonkar, a youth of 40 years directs All India Institute of Yoga, styled as Sri BHARTIYA YOGA SOCIETY (Regd. No. 1186/1979-80) which offers regular training of Yogasans (Yogic Postures) to those who approach it. He also conducts. Yogic Posture Camps whenever called for public or private institutions.
Dr. S. N. Mehrotra the Education Director of U.P. awarded a Sovenir Certificate 1976-77 to Sri Mithai Lal Sonkar, Yogacharya as representative of the State of Uttar Pradesh for participation in National Schools Games, Winter Meet held at Varanasi from 30th Dec. 1976 to 3rd January 1977.
Sonkar represented Uttar Pradesh unit of Yogic Association with 36 trainees in the fourth National Yoga Championship held at Diesel Locomative Works cultural auditorium on 31st January and 1st Feb. 1979.
Sonkar has earned a good reputation for and wide for his yogic feats. Men interested in Indian Yoga often meet him and utilize his yogic services. Many distinguished people from New-Zealand Sweden, Australia, Spain, Bangladesh, Japan etc. have met him. A group of Japnese Yoga teachers have published a yoga-treastise in Japnese language which contains more than 400 Yogic Postures demonstrated by Sonkar.
Sri Edmund Hillary of Everest Fame was glad to meet Sonkar when he visited Varanasi during his “Ocean to Sky” joureney. Hillary posed with Sonkar and took away a number of photos of Sonkar demonstrating yogic postures.
Sonkar along with his family, his wife, his son Sri Ganesh and daughter Kumari Mira and Puja propagates yogasans and thus he is serving a great cause for the uplift of humanity.
