Having recognised the need for preserving, fostering and promoting the plastic art, the Government of India established the National Akademi for art and initiated a number of schemes providing impetus to the development of arts in the country. The Akademi has striven hard in evolving programmes with a view to creating a climate for the environment of contemporary Indian art.
For the purpose of dissemination of art and stimulating art consciousness on a wide scale, Lalit Kala Akademi has been organising travelling exhibitions comprising paintings, sculptures and graphics from out of the permanent collection of the Akademi. These exhibitions are sent out to such centres that do not have organised art activity and, therefore, are denied the opportunity of acquainting themselves with contemporary art forms practised in other parts.
