Book Description
About The Book

Sangyaharan-Anaesthesia is a born for Surgery. It is a well know fact that surgery was at peak of its glory during the ‘Sushruta’ period. As we find the details of surgical procedures in Sushruta Samhita but only a few references are available regarding Sangyaharan. The references are available regarding Sangyaharan. The references mentioned in Sushruta Samhita reflect that Sangyaharan was certainly existed. Keeping in view these points our foresighted leader and founder of Banaras Hindu University Pt. Madan Mohan Malaviya Ji established an integrated system of Medicine for India. Further our forestighted teacher of the university felt to develop Sangyaharan specialty for the establishment of surgical units of Ayurveda and thus a Post-graduate course in Sangyaharan specialty came in existence in integrated form. But till now no book was available to comply the thirst for this combined approach, therefore I tried to write book on this subject covering all the aspects of Ayurveda and Allopathy. This book will guide the Ayurvedic Anaesthesiologists as-well-as will cover the undergraduate and postgraduate syllabus.

Foreword

Sangyaharan specialty has an important role in the development of present day Ayurvedic Education. The institution where Sangyaharan facility is in existence they are at top position in India and are able to develop surgical disciplines of Astanga Ayurveda e.g. Shalya, Shalakya, Prasuti Tantra and Stree Roga. At the same time it is taking an important place in the management of critically ill patients, Pain Management and Palliative Care. Keeping in view the essential services of Sangyaharan a separate course is included in Undergraduate study and a Postgraduate Degree/P.G. Diploma course. Postgraduate Degree/P.G. Diploma course is already started in Banaras Hindu University. But a book on this speciality was needed since long back in Ayurveda. Sangyaharan Prakash will fulfill the longstanding demand. The Second edition of this book will cover all the new advances in Ayurvedic Anaesthesia as-well-as modern Anaesthesia. Thus it will prove a very useful book for the Undergraduate and Postgraduate students of Ayurveda.

The book is written in a very simple language with a very clear concept. I congratulate Dr. Devendra Nath Pande for writing such a valuable book in the field of Sangyaharan-Anaesthesia.

Preface (First Edition)

Sangyaharan (Anaesthesia) is a boon for Surgery. It is a well known fact that surgery was at peak of its glory in 'Sushruta' period. As we find the details of surgical procedures in Sushruta Samhita but a very little material is available regarding Sangyaharan. But the references available in this Samhita reflect that Sangyaharan was certainly existed in those days in any other form. Keeping in view these points our foresighted leader and founder of Banaras Hindu University Pt. Madan Mohan Malviya Ji established an integrated system of Medicine for India. In further step our foresighted teachers of this university felt to develop Sangyaharan specialty for the development of surgical units of Ayurveda and thus a postgraduate course in this specialty came in existence in integrated form. But till now no book was available to comply the thirst of this combined approach, therefore I tried to write a book on this subject covering all the aspects of Ayurveda and Allopathy. This book will guide the Ayurvedic Anaesthetists as well as will cover the undergraduate and postgraduate syllabus.

It is a great pleasure to acknowledge the writers Dr. W.D. Wyle, Dr. H.C. Churchill Davidson, Dr. R.S. Atkinson, Dr. G.B. Rushman, Dr. J. Alfred Lee and many others who's books and publications I learnt and thus inspired to write a minibook on this speciality.

I an very grateful to my teachers Prof. K. Pandey, Emeritus Prof. of Anaesthesiology Prof. A Lat, Prof. of Anaesthesiology and Dr. S.B. Pande, Ex-incharge, Division of Sangyaharan for their help, inspiration and encouragement. I am also thankful to my students who helped me in many ways.

I am happy to dedicate this book to my father Late Pt. Ram Autar Pande. Founder Principal, Inter College Khalispur, Ghazipur (U.P.), who was really a 'saint' of the century. His blessings made it possible to complete this book without, difficulty.

Last but not the least I thank Mr. Sarvesh Agarwal for Phototypesetting and Khandelwal Offsets for completion of Printing in time.

Preface (Second Edition)

Since the first edition of this book was published many things are changed in anesthesia practice. Now many monitoring facilities are available and thus safty margine of the patients are increased. The many newer drugs are available in hand to reduce the side effects and toxicity of anesthetics. The anesthetist is now recognized as team leader of I.C.U./H.D.U. at the same time he/she has an important place in Pain Clinic and Palliative Care Unit. Department of Ayurvedic anesthesia-Sangyaharan (Integrative Anesthesia) also taking part in all these fields e.g. Critical Care, Pain management and Palliative Care. Keeping in view all these new advances an effort was made to include these advances in a brief. This new edition will cover nearly most of the topics allotted in U.G. & P.G. Courses of Ayurveda (B.A.M.S./P.G. Diploma in Sangyaharan/M.D. Ay. Sangyaharan).

I am happy to dedicate the second edition of Sangyaharan Prakash to my father Late Pt. Ram Awtar Pande. Founder Principal, Inter College Khalispur, Ghazipur and my mother Late Sarswati Pande who's blessings made it possible to revise this book in a new shape without any difficulty.
