This book named "Sanatan Hindu Dharm and Ethics" is a wonderful treasure of Banaras Hindu University. This book was composed in 1916 on the instructions of Pt. Madan Mohan Malaviya ji by the Acharyas of the time. Its purpose was to give authentic information about Sanatan Hindu Dharm to the students of Central Hindu College presenting the solution of the dispute arising about Sanatan Hindu Dharm through this book. It is actually a text book. But in the 21st century its importance is very high. All the discrepancies regarding Sanatan Hindu Dharm may be resolved by its study. This book is beneficial for the youth of India and will spread morality among the youth not only the feeling of nationalism, freedom, equality and a sense of motherhood will arise but a sense of national unity and social harmony will also be established. With wide circulation among the students of Banaras Hindu University, this book may produce positive and constructive results and will come moral and non-violent power will be developed in the students.
The present book has three parts. The main ideas of the first Basic Sanatan Hindu Dharm are 'the one existence', 'the many Re-Birth', `Karm', Sacrifice and the concept of 'the world Visible and Invisible'. The second part describes the customs and rituals of 'General Sanatan Hindu Dharm'. It describes the concept of The Sanskaras, Shradha, Shanuham, Worship, the four Ashrams and Four Varnas. The third part is Ethical Teachings. It includes Ethical Science, the foundation of Ethics as given by Dharma, Right and wrong, Virtues and their foundation, bliss and emotions, Self-regarding Virtues, Virtues and Vices in Dharma to superiors, Virtues and and Vices in Relation to equals, Virtues and Vices in relation to inferiars and the Re-action of virtues and vices on each other, are described.
This book will reveal the basic purpose of the establishment of Banaras Hindu University and many serve as a guideline for the people who believe in Indian Philosophy in the present time.
