Book Description
Foreword

Rashtriya Sanskrit Vidyapeetha, Tirupati has published a book entitled Samskrtavijnanavaibhavam, with the objective of presenting the rich knowledge base of physical and social sciences that exists in the vast Sanskrit literature. We had brought out the first volume of Samskrtavijnanavaibhavam, in April, 2000 on the occasion of the fifth convocation of the Rashtriya Sanskrit Vidyapeetha. We are pleased to release this second volume in the series on the occasion of the sixth convocation function of the Vidyapeetha.

It is our intention to convert this book series into a journal on Sanskrit and Science in due course of time. However, for the time being we have decided to bring out books on this important subject under the Vidyapeetha publication series.

We have derived our inspiration for bringing out this monograph series on Sanskrit and Science, essentially from the perceptive thoughts presented by Dr. Murli Manohar Joshiji, Hon'ble Minister of Human Resource Development & Science and Technology in his different addresses in the various for a of Sanskrit institutions as also of the science institutions. We are indeed grateful to Dr. Murli Manohar Joshiji, for having agreed to become the Chief Patron of Samskrtavijnanavaibhavam. We look forward to continue to have his valuable guidance and encouragement in this new venture of Rashtriya Sanskrit Vidaypeetha, Tirupati.

We have now established an Advisory Committee for the book series consisting of eminent personalities in the field of Science, Indology and Sanskrit. With the help of scholars in the field, we propose to enrich the literature Sanskrit and Science with insightful publications and also organize lecture programmes and seminars on this important subject.

It is worth noting that Sanskrit literature is rich with many profound ideas and insights on a number of science subjects. Acceptance of Sanskrit as a language of great relevance and utility in the modern times would be enhanced if the awareness about the scientific knowledge base contained in the Sanskrit literature, is increased among the masses. It is our hope that this Samskrtavijnanavaibhavam will serve the purpose of brining Sanskrit as a language of use to the professional students of modern vintage.

We are beholden to find that the University Grants Commission has taken many innovative initiatives to spread the learning of Sanskrit in our universities and science institutions. The entire Sanskrit world feels grateful to D. Hari Gautam, Chairman, University Grants Commission, for launching various programmes aimed at introducing wisdom contained in the Sanskrit literature in our education system. The Rashtriya Sanskrit Vidyapeeth Tirupati, has special words of gratitude for Dr. Hari Gautam ji, for delivering the Sixth Convocation address at the Vidyapeetha and releasing this second volume of Samskrtavijnanavaibhavam.

I would like to compliment Professor D. Prahlada Char, Vice-Chancellor, Rashtriya Sanskrit Vidyapeetha, Tirupati and his colleagues for pursuing this new area of intellectual activity of the Vidyapeetha.
