Sajjad Hyder Yildirim (1880-1943) was one of the trendsetters of the twentieth century Urdu prose and fiction. His novels and short stories throb into romantic sensibility. With his inborn talent and his zeal for the modernisation of Urdu and for the overall progress of Indian society, he represented the spirit of age. His novels Salis Bilkhair and Zohra are based on the novels of the Turkish writers. His writings helped to create a climate in which stress was laid more on the aesthetic exposure of literature.
Suraiya Husain (b.1927) the author of this monograph is a Ph.D. from Sorbonne University, Paris. A professor in Urdu literature, writer and critic, has published ten books and various articles.
