I am very much honored to edit and release a Commemoration Volume in honor of my Guru, Mentor and Mother Prof. Dr. Gowri Kuppuswamy. I had the privilege of learning from her both at home and Institution which very few would imbibe. As a teacher and guide she would encourage me to be her co author in all her academic writings and contributions. I toured with her in all her travels in India and overseas and would accompany in her concerts. We would present lectures workshops and academic deliberations together. In the Academic world we were inseparable. Her passing away was big setback for me both emotionally and academically. Her exit was the will of God Meenakshi which we all would have to accept and go along with.
Her services to the cause of music would be remembered eternally and perpetuated by all those who had acquaintances with her. She would consider all her students as her children and took care of them like a mother. She would have trained more than 600 students at her home without accepting even a Rupee as her fee for teaching then. Thus she was a true Upasaka of VIDYA DANA.
It gives me immense pleasure and feel honored in writing a foreword for the Commemoration volume being brought out on the first anniversary of my revered Guru and Mentor Dr.Gowri Kuppuswamy.
My association with Prof. Gowri is long and memorable when she was serving as Faculty of Music department of Mysore University at the College of Fine Arts, Mysore. She was such a loving teacher that every student remembers Prof. Gowri for her personal care and love. She was always soft spoken, simple and unassuming and gentle. She devoted her entire life for the sake of pure and classical musical tradition and never compromised on the Traditional approach. Nevertheless she was adept in upgrading the content and classical module. She has more than 50 Research Publications which speaks about her academic knowledge and repertoire.
Prof. Gowri has students all over India and abroad who all cherish their memories of close association with her and for the motherly care she showered on each one of them.
