DR. RAMCHANDRA LELE, Hon. Consultant Physician at Jaslok Hospital, is an eminent physician who has distinguished himself in the fields of medical education, medical research, medical practice and hospital administration. Much loved and revered by medical students, practitioners, consultants and thou- sands of patients, he was the first recipient of the "Gifted Teacher" award instituted by the Association of Physicians of India in 1991. He was awarded the "Padma Bhushan" by the President of India in 1992.

He is Emeritus Professor of Medicine (for life) and Ex-Dean of the Grant Medical College and Sir J.J. Group of Hospitals, Bombay, and former Medical Director of Jaslok Hospital and Research Centre, Bom- bay.

Dr. Lele has already authored six books: Principles and Practice of Nuclear Medicine (1984, Arnold Heinemann); Ayurveda & Modern Medicine (1986, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan); Computers in Medicine (1988, Tata McGraw Hill 6th reprint in 1993); The Medical Profession & The Law (1992, Sajjan Sons- 2nd edition, 1993); Clinical Science & Clinical Re- search (1993, Sajjan Sons); and Clinical Approach (1996, Oxford University Press).

Dr. Lele is an active member of the Rotary Club of Bombay. As Chairman of the Medical Committee for three successive years, he received the Club's Distinguished Community Service Award in 1990. Today he continues to be Chairman of the Medical Committee.
