Nobody knows more about motherhood than a mother. When one experiences motherhood, it brings indescribable joy despite the many problems and difficulties. Theoretical knowledge has its own limitations, but one who has practical experience can easily understand the beauty of life. The importance of the role of the spiritual guide on the human journey has been emphasized again and again.
Gurudev Baba Hariharanandaji had wonderful parents in his childhood who were his teachers. In the later part of his life, he came in contact with great spiritual masters who were instrumental in shaping his life.
Already four years have passed since we celebrated our revered Gurudev Paramahamsa Hariharanandaji's birth centenary. During this period, it was a great opportunity and blessing to compile the timeless teachings of such a great master who taught people of India and abroad for over fifty years. In his Complete Works, titled Ocean of Divine Bliss: The Complete Works of Kriya Yoga Master Paramahamsa Hariharananda there are about twenty-three titles. As his Complete Works are no doubt voluminous and is not possible for everybody to obtain a copy, it was decided to bring out each book separately in the course of time so that spiritual seekers will have the opportunity to read his teachings. In this process of bringing out his new books, the first one is Reminiscences of the Masters. This book is a compilation of his remembrances of living with great masters or getting their blessings in a spiritual way.
The path of spirituality is not always easy and smooth. Every seeker passes through many trials and tribulations, ups and downs, occasional failures, rising of frustration, which stand as steep mountainous walls, difficult to cross. Blessings of the masters, determination, willpower, good company, and so forth, help to gather strength and to continue the spiritual journey.
Gurudev Paramahamsa Hariharananda, from childhood grew up under the protection of loving parents who were spiritually evolved. In the beginning of his adolescence, he got a long-time association with Shri Bijoy Krishna, who provided him with a strong foundation of spiritual life. Through his further guidance, he met Swami Shriyukteshwarji and followed the path of Kriya Yoga with utmost sincerity and self-discipline. As a renunciant seeker, spending a long period of time in the holy premises of Karar Ashram, he got the opportunity to have association with his monastic guru Bharati Krishna Teertha, Shri Anandamoyee Ma, a great lady saint of the last century, the naked monk, Digambar Paramahamsa, Swami Mahadevananda Giri, Mohamandaleshwar and head of Bhola Giri Sannyas Ashram. He had darshan of Babaji Maharaj, subtle blessings of Shri Lahiri Mahasaya, and even a mysterious monk came to him out of his love and compassion to guide this young seeker to reach the ultimate state of samadhi. He was also blessed to have close association with the other great Kriya Yoga masters, Paramahamsa Yoganandaji, Swami Satyananda Giri, and Shri Bhupendranath Sanyal Mahasaya.
Gurudev's book depicts his love for such great masters and his way of understanding them. We have included the biographies of each of the masters and a few of their teachings, along with some photos, for the readers to enjoy and learn more about the masters. We hope this book will be a great help for spiritual seekers on their path.
