Imagine a dasa system which can broadly indicate the events that can occur in a year in the life of a native? How would it be if we could arrive at the particular year of a Vimshortari Antara for an event to manifest which can then be zeroed in with the aid of transits? The Rasi-tulya-vatsara dasa' is precisely such a system.
This book explains the general rules and special rules of RTVD system discovered by the author and demonstrates its applicability to various branches of human life with the help of more than 150 practical illustrations.
The topics covered in the book include: Longevity and Death, Marital Issues, Progeny, Parents, Siblings, Mishaps, Wealth and Finance, Profession, Fame, Awards, and Disgrace.
This book is very helpful not only for mastering the simple yet effective system of 'Rasi-tulya-vatsara dasa' but also to gain insights in judging the horoscope to assess the potential promise for an event.
Dr. Kotekal Guru Rajesh has been into the field of astrology since his teens. He contributed many articles on the subject to journals and magazines. He has also authored many books including original works and translations to the Sanskrit classics. He believes in a judicial mixing of tradition and research as the way for the progress of the science.
A doctorate holder in Geology by qualification, Dr. Rajesh is also an accomplished artist and trained musician in Carnatic classical music. His other interests include classical poetry in Telugu and Sanskrit.
This work is the outcome of a challenge I posed to myself regarding the practical utility of basic and simple rules of Hindu Astrology. The Parasara Hora while describing Sudarsana Dasa proclaims that the life events of a native should be judged taking one year for one sign starting from the Ascendant for the first year. This forms the basis of the present book. I started applying this rule to every major event in human life and got very satisfactory results.
With the help of more than 150 case illustrations this book covers the application of the Rasi Tulya Vatsara Dasa to different areas of human life including matters related to longevity and death, marital life, progeny, siblings, parents, accidents and misfortunes, career and wealth.
The contents of this book have been published as a series of articles in the journal 'Modern Astrology' starting from January 2012 issue. I am thankful to Mrs. Gayatri Devi Vasudev, Editor, Modern Astrology, for permitting me to compile these articles in the present book. I also express my gratitude to her for writing a foreword for this humble work. Mrs. Gayatri Devi has always been encouraging my research in astrology by publishing several of my articles in 'Modern Astrology', and carlier in 'The Astrological Magazine".
The cases used in this book for illustration have been gathered from various sources including astrological books, magazines and from my own consultation work. I am thankful to all these authors, editors and clients. I owe a small explanation regarding the presentation of birth details in the illustrated cases. The birth places of the natives are indicated by their latitude, longitude positions along with the respective time zones. For example, in the expression for the time zone 'h4w", 'h' is hours, '4' is the number of hours and 'w' is towards west on the whole 'h4w' stands for the time zone 4 hours to the west of the Greenwich meridian. Additionally, DST stands for 'Daylight Saving Time', 'GMT' for 'Global Mean Time', and 'LMT' for 'Local Mean Time'. The 'War Time' is mentioned at the appropriate dates.
The astrology or Jyotisha scene today, from the academic perspective, is both dynamic and vibrant as never before, thanks to the more than six-decade 20th century crusade for it by the Father of Modern Astrology Dr. B. V. Raman.
This revival of intellectual interest in its study is today being given fresh momentum and thrust by the likes of Dr. K. Guru Rajesh, a new generation astrology researcher and a scientist by not only profession but also by temper as is evident from his published brilliant papers on a wide range of topics in astrology appearing earlier in THE ASTROLOGICAL MAGAZINE and now in its successor MODERN ASTROLOGY These papers are primarily research oriented and foray into areas of astrology that have been touched little or not at all so far.
Dr. Rajesh has been able to unearth certain principles hidden in classical works, especially Parasari. One such principle Rasi Tulya Vatsara Dasa forms the content of this book. Working on methods to narrow down the timing of events, Dr. Rajesh pitches on this innovative technique based on the Sudarshana Chakra Dasa and which is similar, in some ways, to the concept of Muntha used in Varshaphal. He appears to have worked extensively on the application of this principle in different areas of life such as longevity, children, profession, marriage, health and so on, before identifying this multi-tiered technique of Rasi Tulya Vatsara Dasa.
It goes to Dr. Rajesh's credit that he has the knack of ferreting out the subtleties embedded in classical principles and presenting them in clear simple-to-understand formulae in the present work. I hope the author will extend his studies to mundane astrology also and succeed in identifying methods to narrow down the timing of terrorist strikes, the new scourge that threatens humanity.
I believe Dr. Rajesh will bring out more research- oriented titles exploring more of the little understood and lesser applied concepts of Parasari astrology and bringing out their essence to further fine-tune the difficult art of prediction, more especially in the area of timing events which is the most challenging part in Jyotisha.
