Swami Ramdas, who was known as P Vittal Rao da his pre Sannyas days, was leading an ordinary life bill God's grace descended on him in or about the year 1920 Then he was made to think deeply on the futility of worldly pursuits and the necessity of pursuing the divine path and realizing one's identity with the Supreme Being, which alone can lead one to Peace eternal. He placed himself totally at the altar of God. At this time his father initiated him with the holy and all powerful Name of God -RAM MANTRA. He took to ceaseless chanting of the holy Name When the prompting came from within to renounce the worldly life he took to a wandering mendicant's life. Fiery aspiration coupled with intense practice to attain the Highest, hastened his spiritual progress and, in a short time, he could behold his Beloved God everywhere both within and without He thus showed how absolute surrender to God, arising from His constant remembrance by chanting of His name could lead to ultimate Realization quickly and to getting himself established in unending Bliss.
Having thus attained spiritual liberation and Gish vision he started on his mission to awaken mankind to the awareness of God. In 1931 he and Mother Krishnabat his foremost disciple and a self-realized soul, founded Anandashram with the object of propagating the seal of Universal Love and Service. This spiritual centre offers every kind of facility for spiritual regeneration of the soil so that it may realize its pristine divine nature.
The books author by Swami Ramdas which come from the deeps of Reality continue to inspire innumerable devotees both inside and outside India.
All the speeches and talks given by Swami Ramdas including answers to questions during his World Tour which began on 3rd August 1954 and ended on 2nd January 1955, were first published by Anandashram in ten volumes. As a matter of convenience, the original Volumes 5 and 6 have been together published as this volume. This volume covers Pujya Swamiji's speeches, etc., from 14th September to 19th October 1954 in France, Belgium, Holland, England and America.
The object with which the tour was undertaken is given in the address which he delivered in Bombay on the eve of his departure to Europe and published as Publisher's Note to the first volume. The circumstances in which the tour was conceived and conducted have been described by Swamiji in his book "World is God". The publication of these volumes has been made possible by the indefatigable labours of Swami Satchidananda who accompanied Swami Ramdas and took copious shorthand notes of the talks and speeches at various places.
For the story of Swami Ramdas' life before renunciation, the reader is referred to the book, "Passage to Divinity" by Chandrashekhar. Swamiji, in his Autobiographical volumes "In Quest of God" and "In the Vision of God", narrates his spiritual struggles and experiences and gives an account of the founding of Anandashram to spread the message of Universal Love and Service.
