The Ramayana is derived basically from Valmiki's Sanskrit classic. While fidelity has been the aim, concepts that have been born and cherished through devotional overstones in the many versions have been heeded. Those ethical questions caused by the events that are integral to the development of the story remain for answers, if it all. This aspect does not detract from the ideals presented of righteous outlook and ation, devotion to duty, fearlessness, compassion, coutesy ever and the human dignity and self-esteem that should result from all these norms, which the epic exemplifies, the reading of the saga has been deemed, through the ages, to bestow merit, besides literary joy. The epic is one of the most widely read lore in Indian homes, and abroad. Rama's story has, for generations, influenced the quality of human beings, the poet himself offering the testament of a supreme transformation.
