The ancient classical texts are the foundation of which emanates the fountain of Astrological principles. 'Bhavarth Ratnakar' is one of the classical texts of Hindu Astrology on which rests the edifice of Hindu Astrology as a wholeThe modern astrological world took the material from these monumental works and advanced on research to find out the veracity of the rules mentioned therein. Whether it is 'Brihat Parasara Hora Shashtra', 'Jataktatvam', 'Bhavarth Ratnaker', 'Phaldeepika' or any other texts have given us a path. The path on which scholars are expected to tread to discover the light of truth. The Astrology as a whole has been misunderstood by astrologers. It has been considered as a means of future telling. It is very narrow view of this grand subject. In fact, it is the study of Time. The word like 'Kalpurusha' and 'Hora' simply mean Time and nothing else. Therefore, reverend sage Maharishi Parashar had pronounced his work as 'Hora Shashtra' i.e. Literature of Time. All classical texts as well as modern works on Astrology are the delineations of Time in respect of human beings. The present book entitled 'Bhavarth Ratnakar' has been commented and elucidated keeping in mind the basic principle i.e. Time. The slokas of reverend sage Ramanujacharya have been commented in the light of ongoing research in the field of Astrology. The readers shall be amused with research oriented commentary and elucidation and shall be contended with the contents of the book.

After the translation and commentary over Neeraj Jyotish Dohawali based on important yogas churned out from ancient classical texts on Astrology, and Sukh Nadi Shastra, the classical Nadi system of Astrology, we intended to write commentary and translation of other classical texts of Astrology. And the choice fell on Bhavarth Ratnakar. The Astrological world is well aware and familiar with the importance of the great work of Ramanujacharya, The Bhavarth Ratnakar. The Bhavarth Ratnakar is kept in high esteem by lovers of astrology both in India as well as in western countries. The book is considered as astrological heritage of India and often treated at par with Brihat Parasar Hora Shastra of Maharishi Parasar. It has been our experience that almost all commentaries made over ancient classical texts so far do not seem appropriate with the advancement of new principles discovered so far. Therefore, it is our strong contention that the commentaries made over ancient classical texts be reviewed in the light of new principles prevailing in the modern astrological world. Though the interactions with, renowned astrologers and participating in many conferences, we have received complaints on the part of astrologers that though classical astrological texts have given rules yet the rational of framing or incorporating these rules was missing in all the ancient astrological texts including Brihat Parasar Hora Shastra. Therefore, we endeavored to make commentary with rational so that the mysterious nature and behavior of planets could be properly understood. And in doing so, we have elucidated the Slokas in the light of new findings in the Astrology begotten through long and sincere research in the field of Astrology. The learned author of this work has put emphasis over the effects of planets, throughout the course of book. It is our strong contention that Astrology cannot be put on high pedestal till we do not rid off the belief that planet gives the result. In fact, planet translates the effect of the houses in which they are placed.
