It gives me immense pleasure to produce this publication boasting rich architectural pedigree of the state. Monuments, as the remnants of the tangible heritage have always been an inherent and integral part of the antecedents of culture and civilizations. These remnants may be taken as the surviving representatives of a nostalgic appeal combining enigmatic charm. There is something unique and beautiful about the way in which each of these monuments were erected and how the architects/artists perceived the world through their acumen and diligence.
The produced publication is in two volumes covering monuments more than 100 years old in all 33 districts of the state. The project started as a mission to survey the lesser known unprotected monuments of Rajasthan and included investigation, enquiry and documentation.
The publication is a comprehensive record of the select monuments of the state of Rajasthan and while some of them have been crumbling, some are in an immaculate condition. It is of course always a Herculean task in a publication of this size and scope for enlisting all the monuments surveyed throughout the project.
