Adiyen is pleased to present my readers with two of the holiest compositions, Purusha Sooktha and Sri Sooktha. Especially the former, Purusha Sooktha, is declared to be the quintessence of all vedas and it appears in all the four vedas.
Padma Puraana declares that Purusha Sooktha is the best of all spiritual hymns (manthras). In fact it is hailed as the holiest of manthras in vedas. It is the hymn which eulogises the Highest or Supreme Person.
Human beings, caught in various sufferings look for something that would alleviate their lot and confer material benefits. The definition of Purusha, etymologically, is that He grants whatever His devotees desire overcoming atrocious sins, getting a worthy son with long life, the power to fascinate and so on.
Any sooktha is a collection of hymns and Purusha Sooktha's hymns are about the cosmic person, the Supreme Purusha or the highest Being. Purusha Sooktha is regarded as the noblest of hymns in the entire Veda. It has the rarest distinction of appearing in all the Vedas.
