All the numismatic details of more than seven thousand coins recovered during excavations from Viratnagar, Sambhar, Rairh, Nagar, Nagari and also as hoards from Ismailpur, Jaichandpua and Gurara etc. lying in different museums of the state were examined critically and a select catalogue was prepared. This comprises broadly six groups which include the coins of the Early Janapada, the Haryankas, the Sisunagas, the Nandas, the Mauryans and the Post Mauryans dynasties. The details are precisely represented through photographs, symbol sketches and a description of coins. A map showing the provenance of the coins is also included. Sketches of newly identified symbols along with other symbols on the reverse and obverse of the coins beautifully drawn by Fateh Singh Pokhara are shown in the respective lists.
The attribution is based on most authentic source material and provides a panoramic view of ancient Rajasthan which will be useful for the historians, the research scholars, the coin collectors etc.
