The Central Council for Research in Homoeopathy has great pleasure in presenting this monograph on Aegle folia [leaves of Aegle marmelos (Linn.) Correal, a vegetable drug of indigenous origin proved by the Central Council for Research in Homoeopathy soon after its inception in 1979.
Aegle folia enjoys religious sanctity in India, for it is offered to Lord Shiva, the Hindu God, during the worship rituals on Hindu festivals. It, along with the Aegle marmelos fruits, is eulogised in Indian medicine for its tonic and therapeutic action on the gastro- intestinal tract. Leaves are also used in the form of poultice on inflamed parts with benefit. Keeping in view the importance it enjoys, the CCRH conducted independent provings of Aegle marmelos fruits and leaves and the pathogenesis evolved through theseprovings are presented separately.
The pathogenesis included in this monograph is an obvious improvement on the short proving report presented by P.P. Biswas of Calcutta and included in the Drugs of Hindoosthan by S.C. Ghose. This monograph also contains symptoms which have been clinically verified on patients and some others which were not observed during the proving on healthy volunteers but clinically confirmed. These may prove to be of added value as clinical symptoms.
