Acupuncture is the Science and Art of Healing of diseases of the body by stimulating specific points on the surface of the body through pricking by fine needles. It is an age old medicine prac-ticed by man all over the world in one form or the other. It has been accepted as an important drugless therapy and gained recognition by World Health Organization (WHO). The present volume on Acupuncture deals with the principles and practice of Acupuncture including Acupuncture Anaesthesia. Both Traditional and Modern concepts of Acupuncture and treatment have been covered. New modes of therapy including Hand, Foot, Nose and Cosmetic Acupuncture are described. The location of Acupuncture points and course of Meridians have been reproduced from the Anatomical Atlas of Chinese Acupuncture points. In the Therapeutic section, almost all chapters on medicine have been covered including Obstetries and Gynaecology and Surgical conditions. Available information on majority of the diseases has been included. The volumes is thug intended for all those concerned with acupuncture-including undergraduate, postgraduate students and research workers.
The present volume titled "Principles and Practice of Acupuncture" authored by me has been produced by the Research Foundation of the Society for Advancement of Research and Development of Integrated Medicine (SARDIM) (Regd.), Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh State, India, with the collaboration of the Indian Institute of Integrated Medicine (IIIM), an affiliate of SARDIM, and the Matrusri Medical Centre, Hyderabad, AP, India, under Students and Practitioner's Series.

It is an age old medicine practiced by man all over the world in one form or the other; but developed, systematised and incorporated into the Primary Health Care by China. In the last few decades, much research, both clinical and experimental has been carried out all over the world resulting in the development of new ideas about acupuncture, new techniques of stimulation of Acupuncture points and the exciting role of Acupuncture in the production of Analgesia for carrying out Surgery. It has been termed as Acupuncture Anaesthesia (more appropriately Acupuncture Analgesia as no loss of consciousness is involved in the procedure) and has been very much used in complicated and uncomplicated in minor and major surgeries as a primary tool for producing Analgesia. It has been accepted as an important drugless therapy and gained recognition by World Health Organization (WHO).
