Preface

Many books on Horary astrology are available in the market. One more book on Horary Astrology should not be burden. I do not claim to present something totally new to the readers but readers would certainly find the book more useful because the books which are in the market are more or less translation of classical books. The classical books were writing thousands of years ago, some principles of which may not be relevant to modern works. There were villages, small Kingdoms and the main profession was agriculture depending on weather. So our savants of Astrology had written their books to meet the requirements of those days. I have presented the book solve the present day problems. The interpretations of signs, bhavas and the planet in this book are somewhat different from that of classical books though they are based on the classical books, viz. Mercury represents recommendations or Saturn represents labor etc. However I have kept the classical text intact.

I have taken the principles of Predictive Astrology and combined them with Tajik and Transits to time the events. Tajika shastra gives clear enunciations regarding the results of retrograde, results in solving the query and timing the events. I not took the principles of conjunction, opposition and square as malefic aspects. However, the predictive principles that the effect of aspects varies with the natural benefic or malefic planet holds good. It is not only the distance between the two planets which gives benefic or malefic results but it is the inherent natural quality of the planets, ownership of the house and their position in the chart which gives benefic or malefic results. The signs and the houses have their own importance. So the principle of Predictive Astrology has its own importance and relevance.

In writing the book I have tried my best not to make it too technical or complicated though the subject is not so simple. One ought to know the principle of Predictive Astrology. The Horary Astrology is an essential ingredient of predictive Astrology, though it has its own limitation.

We cannot predict about whole life of the native through horary astrology. The Horary Astrology is based on the birth chart cast for the time of the query. It answers the queries as a whole in totality. It can tell the height, color, lager of the thief. The thief will be caught or not, the police will help us or not etc. So it is limited not, to particular query, not to the events of whole life of the native. But this type of problems cannot be solved with the help of Predictive Astrology. Both have their own limitations. So I have used the science of Horary and Predictive Astrology as complementary.

In the books on Horary, available in the market, little attention has been paid to the illustrations. I have tried to supplement the principles with examples from my own experience. I have tried to make this book more useful for the beginners and professionals well.

I do not claim infallibility. In fact I have given what has been my own experience in Horary Astrology to the readers. I am likely to face criticism. But constructive criticism is welcome, as it will help one to improve ones knowledge. Therefore, any correspondence in this regard is always welcome.

Introduction

Predictive astrology and Horary astrology are complementary to each other and not contradictory. They supplement each other deficiency. In Predictive Astrology we cast the birth chart, calculate Dasha and antardasha, observe the transit and on the data available predict the per running to the native. It may be benefic period or malefic period resulting in illness. Loss through fire, theft or accident etc. The principles of Predictive astrology indicate the life of the native as a whole his relation with father, mother, brothers, wife and children; his success and failures, his achievements and name, fame etc. his past and present karma i.e, about his future. On the other hand Horary Astrology indicates the particular query. The Horary chart is erected for the moment of query on thebasis of principles of Astrology have the same indications as that of the Predictive astrology with slight difference in interpreting their effects. Such as the movable signs indicate the displacement of the query, change is to take place according to the query that has been made. Suppose one desires to know whether his marriage will take place and movable sign occupies the lagna, the movable sign in the lagna, indicates the change in the status of the native. If the patient enquireswhether he will be cured of the disease or not, the moveable sign in lagna indicates the change his present status i.e., he will be cured. But if it is a fixed sign there will be o change in his present status. He may no be cured. Similarly there are differences in significations of houses also. In Horary Astrology such as in cases of doctors and patients query, the lagnaindicate the doctor, 4th, house indicate medicines, 7th house indicates diseases and 10th house indicates patient himself. In predictive astrology the lagna indiates the native, here the querent. There is no difference between the native and querent. Similarly 4th house indicate Sukha, happinss derived by the native in Predictive astrology. In the medical horary astrology it indicate the medicine which gives relief from the diseases i.e., sukha. The 7th house indicate partner nor spouse of the native in predictive astrology.. In Horary astrology 7th house indicates the opponents or disease because the querent has to take action or deal with the dease. Similarly 10th house indicates the patient who does skarma, takes medicine and takes precautions etc. But in Predictive Astrology, the house of disease is 6th house. So I have taken 6th and 7th house as houses of disease.

There are some learned astrologers according to whom one should not take lagna as Doctor. In case of other queries we take Lagna as querrent . why there is an exception in the case of a patient and his recovery? It is well known fact that in case of patient and disease, the patient may die when one of the following combination is present.

1. Lord of 6 and 8th posited in Lagna.

2. Lord of 8th is in Lagna.

3. Lord of Lagna is in 8th from the moon.

“If we treat Lagna as doctor then the doctor should die not the patient.” Why has lagna been treated as doctor by our sages? If we keep inherent spirit of the lagna in our mind we will find that to treat the Lagna as doctor is not incorrect because the lagna is opponent to signification of the 7th house. The doctor is also opponent to the diseases as he treat to quell the diseases. Hence considering lagna as doctor is correct. There is no need therefore, to change to significations of the houses.

I would like to submit before the readers that as the Lagna indicates the native the Lagna of a Horary Chart should indicate the query not the querrent. The chart cast for the moment of query should be dealt with as the birth chart of the query. The chart cast for the moment of query should be dealt with as the birth chart of the query. Whenever one examines the same query of the native, the same chart should be examined as the birth chart. Because it is the principle of Horary astrology that if the querrent puts the query on behalf of someone else then the astrologer should know the relationship between the two, the querrent and about whom the query is put such as the querent wants to know about his son. Therefore the 5th house of the Horary chart should be taken as the Lagna. The querrent may put the query about his wife then treat the 7th house as Lagna and so on. But in case of natal chart this principle is not applied. Whoever shows the natal chart, the natal chart represents the native. Similarly I feel that whoever may put the query, the horary chart should represent the query and the Lagna of the horary chart should be treat as the query not the querrent. In this way we have personified the query. The goddess of knowledge, saraswati has given birth to query not querrent. It should not be confused with the signification of the query. The signification of house and signification should be treated as it is I Horary Astrology.

In Horary Astrology there are two major factors for which querent consults an astrologer.

1. The status of query.

2. When the query will materialize / fructify. The sage parashara has clearly stated in his book “Brihat Parashar Hora” chapter 100 Shloka 41,42 and 43 as under:

1. If all benefic planets (Jupiter, Vnus, Mercury and the Lord of Lord trikona) are posited in 1,2,3,5,6,7,9,10,11 (not in 2nd ,4th, 8th and 12th)and not in inimical sign or debilitated, the native will have gain of wealth, the patient gets cure or will have gain of wealth, the patient gets cure or will result in fulfillment of the object of query.

2. If the malefic planet are posited in above said houses and are not posited in their own signs, exalted or friendly signs, the object of query is not fulfilled.

3. Treat the signification houses as Lagna.

a. If the benefic planets are posited in 8th or 12th from that Lagna.

b. No malefic planet is posited in 8th or 12th from that Lagna. c. Lord of the sign is posited in that Lagna.

d. The benefic planets are posited in Kendra or trikona from that House, the object of query is fulfilled (that Lagna Means the house of signification).

In this way he has simplified Horary Astrology. According to system of Tajik, the object of query is fulfilled if:

i) The lord of lagna aspects the lagna and the significator aspects the house of signification.

ii) If the significator aspect the lagna and the lagna lord aspects the house of signification.

iii) If the lord of lagna and the significator aspects each other or have ithasala.

iv) If the lord of lagna is posited in the house of significator and the signification is posited in lagna.

Horary Astrology thus solves all problem in the fulfillment of the object of query.

The next factor of timing the event has become the hard nut to crack. According to some learned astrologers, the timing of the event depends on the astrologers, the timing of the event depends on the navamsha of the lagna lord. According to others timing of the events depends on the signification etc. I have tried my best to discuss the topic in the chapter of “Fructification and Timing”. I hope the readers will find the same as useful.

The book has been written keeping in view the requirements of the students and the professionals as well as I have tried to discuss every aspect of human life. But it is not exhaustive. Some topics may have been left knowingly, such as number of children, character of wife, rain etc., because I Find them irrelevant in present environment of the society, planning of family and the space available. According to some astrologers the number of children etc. is predetermined. But I feel that one can control and plan family by gaining knowledge of natural laws. A man has power of free will which can be exercised by having knowledge of natural laws. The story of development of human society from primitive stage to present stage is the clear example of use of power of free will. The human being consists of body and spirit, the Atma and the chetan.

By gaining the knowledge of natural laws and developing the power of the Chetan, the Atma, on whom no natural law is applicable, on can bring the heaven on the Earth, Rama-Rajya for common man of the society where he will be happy, contented materially, spiritually and environmentally.

The harmonious development of body, mind and spirit is the aim of education and society. The natural laws are fixed and applicable only on matter. By gaining the knowledge of laws of nature, the man can conquer the nature and make his life comfortable. But the thirst of the spirit will remain unsatisfied. He has to seek peace of mind, the natural laws are not applicable on the spirit. One has to turn himself to inner self, Body and Spirit. The Materialism and spiritualism are the two extremities. The extremity of the both is injurious to society, for the development of society. It is the History of Hindu society.
