About the Author

The Author of this book, Sriman Kratu Das Adhikari, was born on 5th July 1944 in Lachharas village, situated in Gujarat province, India. He was born at his maternal grandfather's home, who was also from Vaisnava cultured family. The Author had leadership qualities since childhood and was the student union president at Vakal High School, Mobha Road, Vadodara, Gujarat. After completing his civil engineering from Vadodara, he went to the United States of America to pursue a Master of Science in Civil Engineering from St. Louis University in 1972.

In 1968, he married Srimati Amrta Keli Devi Dasi, who was also a religious woman and surrendered to Lord Krsna. Both came in contact with ISKCON in 1970 and joined full-time in ISKCON Toronto in 1974. In 1977 they took initiation from His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Srila Prabhupada and got his blessings. Inspired by His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Srila Prabhupada, the Author resigned from his job and became a full-time devotee of ISKCON. As the director of congregational preaching in Toronto, Chicago, and Vancouver temples, the Author became busy preaching Krsna Consciousness and held many responsible services. Later in 1987, the Author was asked to become temple president in ISKCON, Vancouver, where he also contributed as a civil engineer to constructing Vancouver and West Virginia New Vrindavan temple.

After preaching for a long time in western countries, Sriman Kratu Das Adhikari came back to India in 1983 and started preaching Krsna Consciousness in Gujarat. After returning from the USA, he traveled across the villages by bullock cart, preaching and distributing Srila Prabhupada books. After that Author continued his preaching activities in different parts of India, and in 1997, he became temple president at ISKCON Sri Radha Partha- sarathi temple in New Delhi.

In 2002, the Author was authorized as ISWKCON initiating Guru, and his preaching activities increased many folds. He traveled to different countries worldwide, even during difficult situations, changed many people's lives, and spread the Gospel of Lord Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu. Though the Author considers staying at Vendavan the best, following the instruction of his Spiritual Master, His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Srila Prabhupada, he constantly is spreading the message of Lord Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu everywhere.

Preface

It has been our experience that whatever we eat from a designated place, we have to pay the price for it. All items like wheat, rice, cereals, vegetables, fruits, milk, etc., are produced by the farmers in their fields. Whatever food items are grown by the farmers, they need certain things to produce them, like crop seeds, land, warmth from the Sun, rainy water, etc., which cannot be obtained from any place. The Supreme Personality of Godhead, Sri Krsna, owns them - tapamy aham aham varsam - thus, Sri Krsna is the only owner of whatever crops we obtain using nature's gifts. Influenced by ignorance, we think that we are the owner of these crops because either we produced them or owed them after paying. This book will discuss how the Supreme Personality of Godhead, Sri Krsna, owns everything present in the world movable or immovable, tangible or intangible.

Sri Krsna makes the necessary food available for every living being like a father arranges food items for his children. The act of the child offering to his father some part of the food provided by him makes their relationship deep and more vital. Likewise, before eating food supplied by Sri Krsna, if we offer to Him with love and devotion, this act will make our relations with Sri Krsna sweeter. By reading this book carefully, we will know why it is in our welfare to offer food to Sri Krsna before eating, what kind of food items are offerable to Him, and the authentic way of offering it.

Generally, the non-vegetarians and vegetarians' beliefs are different. According to non-vegetarians, it is necessary to eat meat to keep the body healthy and robust, whereas vegetarians say they can achieve it by eating vegetables. In this book, we have discussed how both beliefs are entirely inappropriate. We are prone to become sinners by eating both types of food. This book will talk about Prasadahari, the term found in Vedic literature and is entirely according to scriptures. Offered food to Sri Krsna will only bring welfare in the life of a living being.

This book also explained how the International Society for Krsna Consciousness (ISKCON) has been distributing very nutritious and delicious Prasadam for many years. The philosophy of Srila Prabhupada, the founder Acarya of ISKCON, who is known as the ambassador of Vedic culture, on the greatness of Prasadam and inferiority of non-vegetarian food is presented here in this book. His deep and rational thoughts encourage us to have a comprehensive vision of the above subjects. We believe that you will get immense knowledge by studying this book, which is auspicious and necessary for the welfare of human life.
