About the Author

Dr Surjit Singh Makker a Qualified Veterinarian from one of the Most Prestigious University of India. A Renowned Internationally Acclaimed Veterinary Homeopathic Physician, Consultant and Independent Researcher. Dr. Surjit Singh Makkar is a passionate follower, practitioner and promoter of Veterinary Homeopathy.

Dr. Makker after graduation from College of Veterinary Scince, HAU Hisar, in year 1982, got selected as Veterinary Officer by Punjab Public Service Commission in Department of Animal Husbandry, Govt. of Punjab as class I officer. In the Animal Husbandry Department, he served at various positions from Clinician to Research and Management Services. During his 36 years of service he also pursued his Masters in Information Technology MSC(IT) and Masters in Computer Applications (MCA). Later he did his advance course in DTS (Direct Trainer Skills) from Mahatma Gandhi State Institute of Public Administration (MGSIPA) Punjab.

Dr. Surjit Singh Makker is a Member Faculty of Homeopathy Malaysia (M.F.Hom.), Faculty of LCH UK (The London College of Homeopathy), and Member Faculty of KVASU, MANNUTHY, Kerala for the preparation of Course materials for Post Graduate Certificate Course in Veterinary Homeopathy in KVASU for the topic" Introduction to Clinical Repertory in Veterinary Practice."

Dr. Surjit Singh Makker is a Life Member IAVH (International Association of Veterinary Homeopathy) and Life Member LMHI (Liga Medicorum Homoeopathica Internationalis). Dr. Makker has developed Veterinary Hospital Management Software's and various types of Veterinary Diagnostic Software's and one Mobile Application on Veterinary Homoeopathy. Preface

With the goal of serving the suffering Animal Kingdom, I chose to study Veterinary Homeopathy, which I believed is more effective and affordable than the other systems. Although the study of veterinary Homeopathy initially appeared to be easy, I found in practice that it was actually very difficult and required much hard work and mental focus. However, this cherished goal was successfully attained by the Grace of God, Who bestowed me with the requisite determination, diligence, and dexterity.

Animals respond to homeopathic medicines in much the same way as people do. Although there are several similarities between animals' and humans' health problems, there are some significant differences also. However, these differences do not pose a problem for the homeopathic medicine prescriber, since the choice of remedy is based on the symptoms presented. Presently, Homeopathy occupies a unique place in the realm of therapeutics. The brilliant cures effected by the harmless homeopathic remedies have drawn the attention of many veterinarians into its fold. More and more veterinary practitioners are now evincing keen interest in this method of treating animals, but many of them find the available vast literature to be tough to grasp and time-consuming to study.

By the year 1983, Homeopathy had become a significant part of my practice for the treatment of Poultry, Goats, Cattle, Horses, Elephants and Captive Wild Animals, due to the good results obtained with this method. Soon, I was captivated by witnessing the cure of ailments with the homeopathic approach, which was gentle with small doses, non- invasive, non-toxic, and easy to administer, and the medicines used in this system had a long shelf life.

Foreword

It is a privileged opportunity for us to write a foreword to the book written by Dr. Surjit Singh Makker named "The Practical Handbook of Veterinary Homeopathy". He has proved his proficiency in successfullyadopting Homeopathy into his veterinary clinical practice for over nearly forty years.

We have known Dr. Surjit Singh Makker since the last twenty years and we take great pride in it. This book has come at the right time when the need for an alternative system of medicine in Veterinary practice is most needed. Although most of the veterinary physicians are aware of Homeopathy only few have shown interest to practice homeopathy without combining it with Allopathy. This system of medicine has been grossly neglected due to the lack of a sufficient convincing books to understand this system and practice it with ease. Dr. Makker's attempt in this respect is praiseworthy. It is my grand privilege to forward the book to the Veterinary homeopathic world. We are sure this book will meet the long-felt need of veterinary profession.

The book highlights the twelve tissue remedies, advance homeopathic Materia Medica for veterinary use, homeopathic nosodes, oral vaccines, sarcodes, various homeopathic and biochemic combination formulas and quick prescriptions. Introduction

Homeopathy

Homeopathy is a complementary and complete medical system, which was invented by the scientist of this era, Dr Samuel Hahnemann, in 1790 AD. With time, Homeopathy is gradually spreading in every corner of the world. It is a complete system of medicine that adheres to the philosophy of holism. It is a non-toxic form of medicine that is practised worldwide and aims to enhance the body's self-healing powers. The word 'homeopathy' is derived from two words: 'homoios' meaning similar, and 'pathos' meaning suffering. Homeopathy is a form of medicine that utilises the highly diluted extracts of plants, minerals, pathogens, or other substances as remedies that may be potentially toxic in their undiluted crude form. These remedies stimulate the healing responses in a patient's immune system and enhance other body responses to treat the root causes of illnesses.

Origin of Veterinary Homeopathy

Veterinary Homeopathy dates back to almost around the time of its first use for human diseases. Dr Samuel Hahnemann, who discovered homeopathy in the early nineteenth century, is known to have treated animals. Also, his pupil Von Boenninghausen used to treat animals on his country estate with homeopathy. However, the first veterinary surgeon known to report the use of homeopathy was Wilhelm Lux. The blood of a cow affected with Anthrax was potentised and was administered to the other animals, with the benevolent intention of prevention. He is attributed for using nosodes and wrote the first book on veterinary homeopathy, "Zooiasis" in 1837.

Dr John Martin Honigberger was the first person who is recognized to have brought homeopathy and Hahnemann's name to India. Dr Honigberger arrived at Lahore in 1829-30.
