This is the biographical account of a great man, who has achieved all possible heights through his strong will, conviction and sustained efforts. He is Pranab Mukherjee, our new President. Pranab Mukherjee, former no. 2 in the Union Government, headed various Groups of Ministers and Committees. Apart from the political achievements, Mukherjee is well respected among the social circles and is known for his loyal and competent nature. One can see his passion towards the growth of Indian Nation, through his contributions. He has come a long way, from his small native village to Raisina Hills. MA. SHEWAN, (b. 1954) highly qualified with degrees from Agra University, he is a journalist by training and profession. But, above all, he is a seasoned writer and scholar in his own right. Devoted to serious research and writing, he has worked a lot on various subjects, related to political and social issues. Moreover, he has been a keen watcher of political events, at the national level, which helped him in analysing different happenings and developments, in Delhi and Lucknow, the two seats of power. Based in Aligarh, currently, he heads a News Bureau and represents several leading newspapers and periodicals. Of late, he has diverted his attention to Biographical Studies. He has already headed a team for writing biographies of various national heroes, on an extensive scale. Present biographical account of President Pranab Mukherjee is a new feather in his cap. He has several books to his credit. His recently edited book "Corruption, Money Laundering and Law" in two parts (MITTAL PUBLICATIONS) has received great appreciation from Researchers, Scholars, Teachers and all those interested in the subject. Now, he has focused on an interesting subject: The Art of Running a Coalition Government.

In Indian Democracy, the institution of Presidency is in itself a great thing. The President of India is the head of state in the Republic of India. The President is the formal head of the legislature, executive and judiciary-three branches of Indian Democracy and is the Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Armed Forces. The powers to pardon and clemency vest with the President of India. The President is elected, from a group of nominees, by the elected members of the Parliament of India (Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha) as well as of the state legislatures (Vidhan Sabhas), and serves for a term of five years. Historically, ruling party (with majority in the Lok Sabha) nominees have been elected and run largely uncontested. Incumbent presidents are permitted to contest for re- election. A formula is used to allocate votes, so there is a balance between the population of each state and the number of votes, assembly members from a state can cast, and to provide an equal balance, between State Assembly members and National Parliament members. If no candidate receives a majority of votes, then there is a system, by which losing candidates are eliminated. from the contest and their votes are transferred to other candidates, until one gains a majority.

In Indian system of governance, Article 53 of the Constitution of India states that the President can exercise his or her powers directly, however, with few exceptions, all of the authorities, vested in the President, are in practice exercised by the Council of Ministers, headed by the Prime Minister. The President of India resides in an estate in New Delhi, known as the Rashtrapati Bhavan (which roughly translates as President's Abode).
