About the Book

This publication viz., "Political Ideas in the Pancamahakavyas" is a humble attempt to present the political concepts and ideas reflected in the Sanskrit Pancamahakavyas. The work is largely based on my thesis of the same title.

It would be interesting for the students of political science to know the concepts and ideas prevalent in the ancient time in India. One issurprised to find such a tremendous treasure of Political concepts and ideas depicted in the pancamahakavyas, through the able administration of the kings. The ideal administration of the Raghu kings in Raghuvamsa would be a useful guide to an administrator. The mahakavyas Kiratarjuniyam and Sisupalavadha by Bharavi and Magha respectively, provide valuable information about ancient polity. The readers can judge how far these ideas are relevant in the modern or present day context.
