These writings are basically my comments and thoughts on school education, students and various aspects related to them. These have been written in the context of issues raised by the media and have already been published in Jansatta and other newspapers. After going through various schools and educational institutes, I never realized when I found myself at the crossroads of education. I felt the need to express myself on these issues in a participative manner which, according to me, every citizen should do.
If I do a bit of introspection, I realize that although I have acquired a few degrees, I don't really feel any kind of belongingness or nostalgia for the institutions that have given me these degrees. In fact, some of the memories are bitter because the environment therein has not been encouraging and the experience has not been pleasant. In hindsight, I find some of these institutions to be actually spoilt. They have been successfully working as degree factories and doing good business in this regard. I fail to understand as to why these institutions have not adapted with the changing times and needs when there are so many changes around the world.
But in spite of being in the midst of such a scenario, the feeling which slowly developed within me is the joy of reading. How this has happened, I cannot explain, but the boundaries which were set around syllabus based study must have led to the needed oxygen for the development of this joy of reading.
