About the Author

Shri Hari Krishan Suchdeva born in October 1924, in a well-known Suchdeva family of Dera Ismail Khan Dist. (NWFP), now in Pakistan, graduated in Science from the Punjab University (Lahore) in May 1944. He then took Electrical and Mechanical Engineering degree from the famous Engineering College of Benares Hindu University. Thereafter, he underwent one year pre-commission military training at the Indian Military Academy, Dehradun and commissioned or in the Corps of Electrical Mechanical Engineers in December 1949.

He retired from Army Service in October 1976 on attaining the age of compulsory retirement. Thereafter he served with Indian Road Construction Corporation (A Government of India Undertaking) till the age of superanuation.

It was at this stage that he took to the study of Upanishads, Patanjali's Yoga Sutras, Adi Sankaracharya's Vivekachudamani, Bhagavad Gita and other works by Swami Vivekananda, Shri Aurobindu Ghosh, Swami Shivananda of the Divine Life Society and other such seers. This study helped him to comprehend greatly the true Vedantic Philosophy as propounded and consolidated by the Rishis of the yore.

He ventured into the writing of his work Shri Krishna-Arjuna Samvad that is "God speaks to the Man". This is in simple language the elucidation of each of the sloka of Bhagavad Gita with philosophic commonsense so as to squeeze out the essence of teaching of the sloka for the common man to understand it easily.

In Philosophy of Bhagavad Gita for All he has further simplified the understanding of this unique scripture by throwing light on the precepts of each of the eighteen chapters. This is to enable those who for want of time cannot toil on each sloka, but yet have the inclination to understand the basics of the irrefutable Vedantic Philosophy.

Preface

In Vedantic language, the term "Shruti" implies heard and revealed. This was the age when no language or script had been devised. Therefore, 'Guru-Shishya' parampara (teacher - disciple traditional inter link) was the order of the day. All that the teacher had to teach came from his spoken words. The disciple had to hear attentively and mentally assimilate this knowledge.

Vedas originate from the term 'Vid' meaning vidya or knowledge. These are considered as most ancient; so ancient that even their authors are not known. They are sometimes considered as the celestial "Vaaks" (speech) to the terrestial mankind by the Lord God Himself. Through ages their knowledge has been passed verbally from generation to generation. The ageless wisdom as revealed by Vedas has been termed as "Sanatana Dharma" (Eternal Religion) Vedas were the true "Shruti". The composition of Shruti has been poetic, rhythmically metric with immense amount of imagery. This helped the aspirant in learning it quickly and memorising it easily.
