The present book has been compiled following the change of syllabus under new regulations of the University of Calcutta for the students of B.A. General in Persian. While compiling the book a balance between the modern and classical literature in Persian has been maintained in order to make the students conversant with the corpus of Persian literature produced in India and Iran.
The book consists of two volumes. Volume I is meant for B.A. General whereas Volume II is prescribed for B.A. Honours. The first volume is divided into two sections. The first section comprises pieces from modern Persian prose and poetry from the textbooks of Iran with a little modifications here and there with a view to making the students acquainted with modern Persian literature prevalent in Iran, Afghanistan and Tajikistan. However, the second section contains the excerpts from the writings of classical poets and prose writers of Iran and India in order to make the students well versed in classical literature.
Now, the teachers of Persian language are expected to study the chapters, prepare a glossary and plan exercises based on grammar and compostions for teaching the lessons to the students more effectively.
The present book is the second volume of the "Persian Selections" which has been compiled for the students of B.A.Honours in Persian following the change of syllabus under new regulations of the University of Calcutta.
