Preface This book, just an introductory study as the title shows, has been compiled to meet a special need in India. It was undertaken, in the first instance, in response to a request of a sub-committee of the National Christian Council. This will explain its appearance at a time when the general public in the West have it in their power to choose from a wide range of more scholarly books on this subject. Nevertheless, it can be claimed. that there are features in the present work which are not to be found in any of the existing manuals.
