The science of Palmistry has existed from time immemorial as we find a reference to it even in the Bible as well as in the Hindu Scriptures from which the words Samudrik Shashtra (Palmistery) comes. There is no reason, there fore, to scoff at it or to say that the lines on the palm are simply creases formed by folding the hands as some people are apt to suppose.
It is by the study of this branch of Occult Philosophy that we are enabled to know our own fortune or what our future is likely to be.
Though Palmistry is ignored by many, yet, in all civilised countries, not to speak of India, this science is cultivated more or less. In London and other enlightened towns Chirological societies have sprung up. Periodicals which deal with this interesting science are published by these societies. Things seem, however, to have at last taken a better turn now.
It must be noted here that most of the truths laid down in this little treatise have been verified from the hands of those that have favoured the author with their visits during the last 32 years; and in support of this, concrete cases are given here and there by way of illustration.
The lines and marks that have been noted down are commonly met with, with a few exceptions, such as the line of Intuition. This rare-very rare mark has come to the notice of the author in one case only-during his 32 years’ experience as Palmist. Perhaps it would not be out of place to mention that some of the hints were not derived from any books, but were suggested by an esteemed adept in Palmistry with whom the author had fortunately come in contact during his travels in U.P. in 1900 A. D.
In order to make this abstruse science more simple and interesting the subject has been put in the form of a catechism with two fictitious names D (Disciple) and P (Preceptor) throughout the book.
Diagrams (fourteen in number) with short notes have been inserted at the beginning of the manual with a view to bringing home the position of the lines and marks to the mind of the student.
It is not unlikely that errors or inaccuracies of any kind may have crept into this edition. The author will feel highly obliged if any one would take the trouble of pointing these out to him, as well as making suggestions tending to enhance the untility of this manual.
