We are happy to bring out the second publication of the Faculty, again on a subject related to a transport economics. This small brochure consists of two lectures on "Our Ports" delivered by Shri Hasmukh P. Oza, Director, The Institute of Engineering Research, Baroda, as a visiting Professor to the Faculty in February, 1964. Shri Oza is an expert on harbour engineering. As a Director of Ports, in the former Bombay State and subsequently in the new State of Gujarat, he had a direct hand in constructing several port projects, as also in formulating the port policy for these states. For some time he was with the Ministry of Transport, Government of India, as a Director in charge of minor ports. Shri. Oza, thus brings to bear upon the subject, very rich and varied experience and I am sure these lectures will prove not only instructive and interesting but also thought provoking. His suggestions for at rational port policy in the light of his traffic forecast should prove useful in fixing the target of port capacities under the Fourth Five Year Plan.
