That we Indians are blessed with ancestors who had extensive knowledge of an extremely wide range of subjects such as mathematics, astronomy, acoustics, metallurgy, metrology, medicine, architecture, civil engineering, town planning, sanitation management, grammar, philosophy etc., is amply evidenced by the several extremely ancient archaeological findings, monuments, ancient universities, manuscripts found in India as well as abroad, and also by numerous other forms of evidence. Veracity and dating is supported by carbon dating, genetic studies, optically stimulated luminescence, thermoluminescence, and astronomical observations found in the innumerable texts as also various other scientific methods of evaluation.
My book is based chiefly on the published works of a number of eminent and well-known present-day scholars, who, between them, represent 45 different fields of scholarship. While a vast majority of them are Indians and Indian diaspora, many are non-Indians from a number of the western and eastern countries. They are alumni or/and professors, or scientists, at the highly reputed institutions of education and research in India and abroad.
To sum up, the objective of this book is to provide valid and verifiable information about our intellectual heritage, very ancient, very Indian, which we can well be proud of, without being disrespectful to any other civilisation.
PRAKASH CHITRE passed out of IIM, Calcutta, way back in 1970 and had been a marketing professional all his working life till he took complete retirement a few years back.
For quite some time now I have been taking a look at the intellectual and civilisational past of ancient India, going back several thousand years, our past which we were never taught, not in schools at least. It reveals the astounding knowledge of our ancestors in a very wide range of complex areas such as Acoustics, Architecture, Astronomy, Algebra, Astrology, Civil Engineering, Etymology, Grammar, Mathematics including Planar as well as Spherical Trigonometry, Medicine, Metallurgy, Metaphysics, Metrology, Physics, Philosophy, Sculpture, Surgery, Veterinary Science etc. That such knowledge existed is a fact, not an exaggeration or flight of fancy. There is ample evidence for it all, which I have endeavoured to present in this book.
What I read and saw/heard over a period of time, concerning the width, depth, accuracy and antiquity of the knowledge of our distant ancestors, surprised me. What also surprised me was the abundance of evidence for such knowledge, some of it staring us in the face, so to speak.
All this made me want to share it with those of my fellow Indians who may be as unaware of the details of all this as I used to be. I first put it in my own website, www.indiamillenniaago.in which I set up on 15th March 2021. Some eight months later the total number of unique or distinct visitors to the website, the average number of visits per unique visitor, the average length of time spent per visit on the website etc were all rather encouraging. That is when my wife suggested that I must put in some more work, and some more work, and yet some more work to boot, and have it published in a book. I have been doing that. I took down that website only after keeping it open for over eight months.
