About the Author Dr. Gulab Kothari is a celebrated journalist, sensitive writer, poet, thinker, exponent of Ved Vijnana, researcher, peacemaker and above all a spiritually elevated human being. All his writings aim at transforming the individual and society and creating social excellence. His eminently known treatise Manas, which runs in thirteen volumes and has been translated into twelve Indian languages as well as into English, fathoms the Infinite depths of human psyche, the pathos of man's isolation and gives us deep Insights into human nature. It can be reckoned as a paradigm of formative literature that represents the ideals enshrined in the Vedic philosophy and Indian spiritual heritage. His narrative poems 'Adya', 'O My Mind' and the Tao of Spirituality' which deal with the pursuits and intricacies of human life and offer solutions from a Vedic perspective are a soul-stirring expression of the waves of his thinking and of the deep relationship between the human mind and Ishvara (the supreme spirit).

Dr. Kothari's two recent seminal works entitled 'Samvad Upnishad' and 'Akshar Yatra' are new feathers in his cap. While 'Samvad Upnishad' unravels some new insights into uncanny aspects of communication 'Akshar Yatra' is a classic that makes us wiser. In recognition of his scholarly pursuits Dr. Kothari has been awarded D.Lit. honoris causa by Amity University Jaipur, Mohan Lal Sukhadia University Udaipur and Rajasthan Sanskrit University Jaipur. He has been hounoured with many prestigious.

awards including Jnan Peeth's Moorti Devi Award. He is the Editor-in-Chief of Rajasthan Patrika, a national Hindi Daily, which he has transformed into an instrument for social change. His editorials fearlessly expose acts of Injustice, intimidation, corruption and promote reconciliation and harmony in society.

He did his Ph.D. in an area of newspaper management. from IOU the Netherlands in 1995. Continuing his quest for knowledge, Dr. Kothari did his D.Litt. from the same university in 2002. Impressed by the quality of research evinced in his Ph.D. thesis (1995), Universidad Central de Nicaragua and Universidad Azteca Mexico also awarded the Ph.D. degree to him in 2012 under IOU's dual degree programme.

Foreword The mind is the foundation of our life. If there is mind, their desire. If there is desire, there is activity, goal and life What is mind? What is its form, its function? How does its environment get created? Do living beings other than human beings also have mind? Man is an intellectual but other living beings also have intellect. Can they also think like human beings? Can they understand mind? Man is conscious of dharma, he is conscious of the goal of life. All treatises have been written for man. The aim of all of them is to comprehend mind.

What is there in mind which needs to be understood? The mind as it appears to us, as we experience it, is not the pure mind. It is just its reflection. There are veils on the original mind the veils of prakriti and our karmas. What we get to know is in reality very different. Because of this discordance our life remains full of complexities, we are not able to experi ence happiness. We do not achieve peace even after facing the buffets of life.

Creation means creating something new. If the entities that get created have all the elements of creation and are connected with it, only then they are part of creation. That is why every unit in creation is a 'belle of blooming sixteen', in other words it is complete with sixteen elements. The concept of 'shodsipu rusha', a man who has accomplished sixteen elements is men tioned in detail in Vedas. A purusha is the conscious being that remains centered in 'pura'. 'Pura' means that which has a centre, a circumference. Man is also a 'shodsipurusha'.
