About The Book

This photo-poetry book comprises a collection of 90 poems that essentially revolve around the monuments of India. The book reflects the author's journeys across India and his experience of the monuments that he has visited in the last 15 years. Each poem has an associated photograph, thus the two complement each other; each combination presented in this book narrates a distinct tale or mood. All photos in this book are taken by him.

About the Author

Janhwij Sharma, an architect by profession, works with the Archaeological Survey of India. He has worked and lectured extensively within India and abroad for matters related to the conservation of monuments and for the World Heritage related issues. Janhwij Sharma is a dilettante photographer and has a huge collection of photographs on the themes of monuments, landscapes and nature. This photo-poetry compilation is his first book as a poet.

Foreword

Whenever I see an old monument, my mind thinks that these are not just ruins, stones, arches or doors. But a great witness to the history of our country, probably to all the victories and joys, sorrows and failures.

Only a very sensitive mind like Janhwij Sharma, can visualize such finest feelings and connect them to the ruins, and listen to the feelings or story of each monument, very evident in each line.

This book is unique, as it unfolds the history in form of poems and pictures. Some of the poems are excellent reflection of his mind and the ruins.

In this collection, many a times, I felt that the ruins are directly conversing with him, sharing their agony and distress.

I wish him all the best and am sure, a reader who is interested in archaeology and monuments, will treasure this book, the way he has celebrated these monuments.
